Why Is My Water Pressure Low? Common Causes in Calgary Homes

From a single fixture to the whole house, the usual culprits and which ones need a plumber.

Low water pressure usually comes down to one of a few things, and the first clue is whether it is one fixture or the whole house. That tells you a lot before anyone opens a wall.

One fixture

A single slow tap or shower is usually a clogged aerator or a scaled-up showerhead, which is often a five-minute fix you can do yourself. If it is a single fixture valve, that is a small repair.

The whole house

  • A partly closed main shut-off or pressure-reducing valve.
  • Scale and corrosion narrowing older pipe over time.
  • Aging Poly-B or galvanized lines.
  • A pressure issue on the supply side.

If it is house-wide and getting worse, it is worth a proper look, because it often points at the pipe itself.
